Columbia, South Carolina based Cantina 76 has grown to five locations state wide in just ten short years. Founded by four college friends, the inspiring, elevated Mexican menu, accompanied by fresh craft cocktails has proven to be a delicious combination for diners.
Recently, I had the pleasure of trying their new brunch menu:, which is served every Sunday, 11:00 am – 2:00 p.m.
The brunch menu is full of classic dishes with a Mexican spin created by Executive Chef, David Grillo. Tasty libations are also served during brunch, like the honeysuckle mimosa, peach mimosa and bloody Mary.
Cantina 76’s Brunch Menu
Plenty of delectable choices abound the brunch menu. Typically, I can judge a good Mexican food restaurant by the tortilla chips they serve. So, of course, I started with chips, Queso and salsa.
Despite the chips being served at room temperature (usually I like them warm), they were the perfect texture and stable enough to hold salsa and Queso, at the same time.
The Queso was creamy, without being overpowering.
Made with roma tomatoes, the salsa was very fresh and the perfect thickness for the chips. It has a small amount of heat, but not a prolonged heat. Dissipated quickly on the tongue.
Off to a yummy start!

Popular, especially in the south, Cantina 76 has their own version of Chicken & Waffles.
Served with fresh fruit, including orange slices, red grapes and strawberries. The Belgian waffle was very light and topped with two fried chicken tenderloins. I wish there had been just a bit more Ancho Honey drizzled over the top. All the honey was soaked up by the waffle before I was half-way through.
The Breakfast Roll Up was large enough to be shared, but delicious enough, that you may NOT want to share. A large flour tortilla stuff with cheese, salsa, tater tots, Chorizo, and scrambled eggs. Plated with Queso, red chili sauce, lime crema, and pico de gallo.
So filling, but so delicious – I would definitely order the Breakfast Roll Up again.
All tacos are soft tortilla, unless you specifically order corn. The Steak and Egg Migas consists of Wok seared flank steak, onions, cheddar cheese, scrambled eggs, pincante verde and fried corn strips; conveniently sold in one or two taco portions.
These pair perfectly with a Mexican golden lager beer like Tecate.

My favorite brunch dish was the Breakfast Bowl.
It encapsulates all the best breakfast flavors without being too heavy.
It contains:
- Smashed tarter tots
- Cheddar cheese
- Crumbled bacon
- A sunny side up egg
- Pico De Gallo
This energy filled dish can prepare yourself for one or several of the many waterfall hikes scattered around the Upstate.
The Breakfast Bowl was my favorite brunch dish.
Atmosphere at Cantina 76
I was impressed with the casual surroundings of Cantina 76. Music played over head, but was not loud.
Plenty of room between tables, so patrons do not feel crowded.
A large, full bar has plenty of chairs and offers many cocktails, even during brunch, including various mimosas.
Laura, our server was prompt and took care of us splendidly. Trey, the General Manager of the Greenville location, checked on us and encouraged us to visit for their dinner menu – which I am sure we will.
Other “Bites”
Prices of the brunch menu items are very reasonable. Two can eat for under $20.
The Greenville location offers outside dinning, as well as the spacious interior.
Televisions are scattered throughout the bar broadcasting current sporting events.
Although they do not accept reservations, they will do everything to accommodate larger parties and have a great catering program.
