Cocktail Crawl in Greenville, South Carolina

    January 9, 2019

***This is a sponsored post. Greenville, South Carolina has been ranked as one the fastest growing culinary destinations in the United States, but what about all the great libations and mixologist working at the many restaurants in the area?  These masters of mixology are creating some of the best cocktails and I am going to tell you about five of my favorites. First and foremost, if taking a cocktail tour of Greenville, make sure to make driving arrangements in advance. Lowcountry Valet and Shuttle Co would be happy to escort you, or a group to whichever delicious destinations you choose, without the worry of being arrested or endangering other drivers. …

Cheddar Cheese is the Perfect Ingredient

    December 12, 2018

Cheddar cheese is one of the most popular types of cheeses of all time and it is absolutely my favorite. Did you know, the orange color of cheese dates back to the 16th century England when cheesemakers would pass off a lower quality of cheese by adding saffron, then eventually, ANNATTO. In former times, only affluent Cheddar lovers could afford the expensive full-cream cheeses with its creamy-yellow color. By adding the coloring agent, cheesemakers could take low-fat cheese and sell it as full-fat cheese.  It is the fat that gives the color to the cheese. ANNATTO is derived from the seeds of the Achiote tree, which is native to tropical…

Step 3: Perfect Portions for Weight Loss

    October 3, 2018

Portion control is personally, my most frustrating issue with weight loss.  Usually, when I taste something really good, I eat as I will never have the opportunity to eat it again.  Of course, that is the wrong mentality.  Eating at home, I can always repeat a delicious meal or eat leftovers. However, what about when you are putting the food on the plate?  From step 1, we learned to keep the food in the kitchen, don’t bring it to the table; so you can avoid those disastrous second helpings. In step 3, I am learning how to “guesstimate” portions, so I can eat meals and snacks with the right amount…

Reducing Sugar Lowers Risk of Alzheimer’s

    August 22, 2018

A recent research study suggests a correlation between sugar consumption and deterioration of the brain, as well as cognitive skills. In this study of the aging process, researches concluded participants with diabetes or borderline diabetes are more susceptible to dementia and Alzheimers. However, researchers indicate “interventions that delay diabetes onset, as well as management strategies for glucose control, might help alleviate the progression of subsequent cognitive decline over the long term,” (http://bit.ly/2NLhuOP).   What does this mean for our health? We need to decrease the amount of sugar in our lives, to lower our blood sugar levels, decreasing our level of cognitive decline and improve our overall health. What we should be…
