Huey Luey’s is a Good Mexican Restaurant in Hiram

Mexican Restaurant in Hiram? Apprehensive about  just another Mexican restaurant in Hiram, I was intrigued by the name Huey Luey’s Fine Mexican Food.  Skeptical “fine Mexican Food” could mean higher prices and gourmet style, I was reluctant. Regardless of very little research, I visited on a weekday evening for dinner.       Ambiance Promptly seated, the casual, bright dining room, filled with colorful Mexican trinkets and displays were festive.  Music was faintly playing in the background, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere, with the ability to have a conversation.  Admittedly, this was early in the evening, just prior to happy hour.  Immediately, I received the traditional, but complimentary corn tortilla…

    Enhance Your National Wine Day

National Wine Day (Wednesday, May 25), I thought I would give some of my best wine recommendations and hints. Wine Choices If you are new to wine, you should probably determine what flavors you might like before you go shopping.  If you like hearty, full flavored, bold type of drinks, you may like RED wine better.  However, if you tend to order fruity cocktails and enjoy light, crisp type of drinks, WHITE or ROSE wines would suite you better.  This is just a guideline, not a rule.  I typically like white or rose; however, I have purchased mild oak flavored red wine too. Best Vendors at Three Upstate Farmers Markets

Great finds at the weekend Farmer’s Markets Wonderful weekend to get my first look at the Farmer’s Market in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.  I had anticipation and excitement about seeing what over 60 vendors had to offer in the Upstate.  I was impressed with the entire organization of the vendors and pedestrian pathways. Vendors at Travelers Rest Farmer’s Market Greenbriar Farms was first as you enter the market and they had plenty of greens and vegetables for customers. Upstate Provisions, a Travelers Rest eatery, was at the market with free samples of a vegetable salad and fresh bread. I met Josh and Melissa Smith who own and operate Fraylick Farm. …

    My Garden First Crop

My garden first crop was 2 yellow crooked neck squash and 1 zephyr squash. Both are delicious!  Both varieties have the same texture and flavor.  The Zephyr is the one with the green tip.  According to “SpecialityProduce.com” Zephyr squash is a relatively new type of summer squash and botanically a part of Cucurbita pepo. A highly productive hybrid variety the Zephyr is a constricted neck type of squash, similar to that of yellow crook neck squash. It was bred specifically to have superior taste, quality and adaptability. Its fruit can be harvested at varying stages of maturity, with the medium size of five to seven inches being the most recommended…

    Acclimate for a Good Steak

Steaks: Grain vs. Grass Fed You need to acclimate your meat for a good steak. Because steak is one of the items I will pay a little extra, for good quality, I take particular steps to ensure I am getting the best flavor, juiciness and tenderness for my money. I will spend more for grain fed meat, when I can find it. Grain-fed Beef Pasture-raised, grazes on grass Later, fed hearty, rich-in-nutrients grain The most flavorful and highest quality beef available, with superior marbling and texture Top chefs agree, grain-fed beef tastes better and is the preferred choice of steak-lovers everywhere Chart courtesy of Omaha Steaks Grass-fed Beef Pasture-raised, grazes…
