Mexican Restaurant in Hiram?

Apprehensive about just another Mexican restaurant in Hiram, I was intrigued by the name Huey Luey’s Fine Mexican Food.
Skeptical “fine Mexican Food” could mean higher prices and gourmet style, I was reluctant.
Regardless of very little research, I visited on a weekday evening for dinner.
Ambiance
Promptly seated, the casual, bright dining room, filled with colorful Mexican trinkets and displays were festive.
Music was faintly playing in the background, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere, with the ability to have a conversation.
Admittedly, this was early in the evening, just prior to happy hour.
Immediately, I received the traditional, but complimentary corn tortilla chips with salsa.
Very light, crisp chips were excellent, accompanied by a mild, but satisfying fresh salsa.
Habitually requesting white cheese dip at every Mexican restaurant I visit, Huey Luey’s was quick and hot with a rich, smooth texture dip.
Entrees

Entrees ordered included the Chicken Burrito Supreme and Beef Enchiladas.
The burrito was typical in size, served with melted cheese, lettuce, sour cream and tomato.
Although filling, I wanted more meat and flavor.
I tasted no essence of spices and zest that I would have liked.
The beef enchiladas were of a good portion size, with a red guajillo chile sauce and melted cheese.
The entree included rice and refried beans. Full of more flavor and spice, the enchiladas had a more traditional “tex-mex” gusto.
Service
Service was above average, very prompt, courteous and pleasant.
Customarily, I find “tex-mex” restaurants to be less expensive than most family dining experiences.
This was no exception. Two entrees, and appetizer and two adult beverages totaled less than $30.
Most plates range from $6.95 — $10.95.
A less expensive lunch menu is served Monday through Friday 11 am – 3 pm.
Salads, quesadillas, nachos, fajitas and tacos are available.
With a full bar and daily specialty drinks, patrons have plenty of choices.
A limited kids menu is also offered.
Although not ordered during my visit, desserts include flan, churros, fried ice cream or sopapillas. For couples on Friday night dates, live entertainment is in the restaurant 7 pm – 11 pm.
Customers of Huey Luey’s Fine Mexican Food should expect good service, a comfortable dining room but typical tex-mex food, with slightly above average quality.
