Sprouts Brings Fresh Food to Greenville

    June 20, 2018

Finally visited my first Sprouts Farmer’s Market last week at their Greenville Grand Opening and it did not disappoint! Kailia, with Sprouts gave me and four other enthusiastic bloggers a grand tour. Why Shop at Sprouts Farmers Market? During our tour, Kalia explained how Sprouts targets the “transitional shopper.” I am a transitional shopper – moving from traditional processed foods to more raw, healthy real food. For foodies like me who hunger for a shopping experience, Sprouts delivers fresh produce (many organic choices), meat and seafood, bulk grains, vitamins and supplements, a deli with freshly prepared entrees and sides, dairy, bakery, natural body care items and more. Perusing the hundreds…

What is a Community Supported Agriculture System?

    November 9, 2016

Autumn has almost passed us by, here in Upstate, South Carolina.  That means many fruits and vegetables stopped producing and local farmers are moving to their winter crops.  However, you – the consumer- can still support your local farmers and obtain good, healthy food through CSA’s or Community Supported Agriculture programs. What are CSA’s? These are partnerships between local consumers and their local farmers. Consumers pay a fee ahead of a growing season, as an investment into the farm.  Each week during a growing season, the customer receives a box or a bag of what crops were harvested that week.  Crop production can be unpredictable, therefore, customers are not always…

    Foodie Heaven at Lowes Foods

    November 4, 2016

Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Lowes Foods  opened their first location in the Upstate of South Carolina in late September.  I finally visited a couple of weeks ago and boy, was I amazed. Visiting a Lowes Foods is not a normal trip to the grocery store, be prepared to spend most of the afternoon pursuing isles and isles of typical grocery store chain fair, but the additional amenities are what makes this supermarket stand out from the rest. Extra Amenities at Lowes Foods   I usually only cook for two people and my husband hates leftovers, which proves to be difficult when buying produce.  Many produce options at Lowes Foods…

    Discover Supermarket Strategies

    August 9, 2016

The Psychology Behind a Grocery Store Discovering The Fresh Market When I moved to Greenville, South Carolina, I had no idea I would be giving up my Kroger rewards card.  Not one Kroger grocery store in the Upstate.  However, I have discovered The Fresh Market.  Similar to a Whole Foods, but much smaller in scale, The Fresh Market focus’ on natural or organic food products.  Not to say, everything is healthy in The Fresh Market, the bakery with fresh bread and an entire dessert case, I enjoy looking at all the fresh produce and “feeling” like I am eating more healthy. Entering the Grocery Store When you enter The Fresh…

Burlington, North Carolina Approves Produce Stands

    July 26, 2016

As an avid supporter of sustainable living, I try to frequent my local Travelers Rest Farmer’s Market  to buy locally grown vegetables and products made by other local residents.  This not only helps the local community but also provides a healthier meal plan for my family. Burlington, North Carolina has realized these benefits and has agreed to amend their ordinance for residential produce markets. Under the previous ordinance, plants, fruits and vegetables could only be sold in a residential area if the crops were physically grown on the same property.  Former City Manager Harold Owen says is just not realistic given the city’s population density.  He knew changing the ordinance…
