Sampling various wines and shopping throughout the beautiful town of Highlands, North Carolina, with my husband – made for one of the most pleasant Saturday’s ever! Sip and Shop Saturday was just one of the events at the 2017 Highlands Food and Wine Festival. Edible Upcountry and Edible Asheville Magazines partnered with the Highlands Chamber of Commerce arranging for local businesses to showcase a wine from Tryon Distribution. Each wine was paired with a particular gourmet food, courtesy of Gourmet Foods International. Ticket buyers were given a complimentary glass and a tasting program at the box office. Food Trucks Roll In at Highlands Food and Wine Festival
The 2017 Highlands Food and Wine Festival presented some of the best food trucks Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina has to offer. Appropriately coined, Truckin’, the four-hour event allowed patrons to sample a wide variety of flavorful dishes, prepared by some of the most talented restaurants on wheels. To complement the savory samples, were several beverage options being prepared in catering vehicles, even one mini-motor home. Mountain Vibe Alive Truckin was set in a wooded lot off Old Creek Circle, near downtown Highlands, North Carolina. Large sofas and cushioned chairs were scattered among…

Perfect Birthday Gift for a Foodie
Another birthday has rolled around and although my husband did not inquire as to what I might like to do, I decided to create my own birthday celebration. Food adventures are what I love to do whenever we go on vacation or visit a new city. The culinary adventure I planned when we were in Las Vegas was one for the history books and another blog post. This extravaganza would be exciting for me and tolerable for my husband (he is not an adventurous foodie). First Stop: Downtown Greenville Farmer’s Market Having only been one time, last summer…I wanted to see what the market had to offer for 2017. Although…

What is a Community Supported Agriculture System?
Autumn has almost passed us by, here in Upstate, South Carolina. That means many fruits and vegetables stopped producing and local farmers are moving to their winter crops. These are partnerships between local consumers and their local farmers. Consumers pay a fee ahead of a growing season, as an investment into the farm. Each week during a growing season, the customer receives a box or a bag of what crops were harvested that week. Crop production can be unpredictable, therefore, customers are not always…

Foodie Heaven at Lowes Foods
Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Lowes Foods opened their first location in the Upstate of South Carolina in late September. I finally visited a couple of weeks ago and boy, was I amazed. Visiting a Lowes Foods is not a normal trip to the grocery store, be prepared to spend most of the afternoon pursuing isles and isles of typical grocery store chain fair, but the additional amenities are what makes this supermarket stand out from the rest. Extra Amenities at Lowes Foods I usually only cook for two people and my husband hates leftovers, which proves to be difficult when buying produce. Many produce options at Lowes Foods…
