Step 3: Perfect Portions for Weight Loss

    October 3, 2018

Portion control is personally, my most frustrating issue with weight loss.  Usually, when I taste something really good, I eat as I will never have the opportunity to eat it again.  Of course, that is the wrong mentality.  Eating at home, I can always repeat a delicious meal or eat leftovers. However, what about when you are putting the food on the plate?  From step 1, we learned to keep the food in the kitchen, don’t bring it to the table; so you can avoid those disastrous second helpings. In step 3, I am learning how to “guesstimate” portions, so I can eat meals and snacks with the right amount…

    Kickstarting MY Weight Loss Plan

    September 19, 2018

Over the last 15 years or so, I have been gaining weight slowly, but steadily.  I have heard the cliche,    “oh falling in love makes you gain weight…”                “marriage makes you fat..” That is BS…I just got lazy and complacent and I need to get up and do something about it. Do you remember Richard Simmons famous quote, “I never say ‘d-i-e-t’ because the first three letters spell DIE!”  Oh my gosh, I love that!  I never really have tried a full-fledged diet plan before. My mom was on Nutri-System for about a year and she lost nearly 100 lbs, but it was very…

8 Ways to Lower Bad Cholesterol and Triglycerides

    February 2, 2018

A recent health checkup indicated a jump in my LDL, or bad cholesterol numbers. My husband, recently evaluated due to a new health program at work, was told his triglyceride numbers were too high. What are LDL and triglycerides? LDL or low-density lipoprotein is the “less desirable” type of cholesterol in your body, (that is how I remember which is which). LDL causes plaque build-up in arteries, which causes blood to be restricted and can result in heart attacks, heart disease, and strokes.  I have a family history of heart disease and my father has survived several heart attacks – so this is cause for concern for me. Ideal LDL…

7 Day Eliminate Processed Foods Challenge

    May 12, 2017

I started this food blog because                 I LOVE food.                 I love cooking food,                eating food and                shopping for food. I think my lust for this necessity of life, has led me down a path of occasional laziness. Yes, even foodies can be lazy sometimes.   Partially to blame for my laziness is the evil, PROCESSED FOOD INDUSTRY.   The Food & Drug Administration has determined processed foods as being:     a. Anything that has been modified from its raw form     b. Any substance has been added to the food, such as sodium-containing additives, which makes the product less healthy. Shocking Facts about Processed Foods More…
